Sculpture Series 'Carving a Niche' 2023

These niches are ‘clay houses’ that are home to my curiosities and thoughts. They entertain thoughts of leisure but value the present moment that is forever fleeting. These sculptures are hand carved with patterns that merge and emerge from the form, inspired by the rich Mughal history and its alcoves and niches. The rough, rugged textures on the work alongside intricate geometric pattern made in painstaking detail invites ideas of the unity of mind, hand, and heart in the sacred geometry of nature. Natural found objects from the landscape around me, all marking certain moments and experiences come together in the form of assemblage in the niches, that are carved, sculpted and given form mostly just with hands.
The work gives nature the supreme place of existence, while I orchestrate compositions that play between art and history, seamlessly weaving together the present and the past.
